While most of the town is hush-hush about the events of Niklaus Mikaelson mysteriously disappearing, along with nearly the entire Mikaelson family, events hidden from the general public take place. Many notice that Tyler has been acting strange, as well as disappearing for spans of time. Meanwhile, the Salvatore brothers face the challenge of helping Elena through this difficult time.

The humans are beginning to question the so-called 'animal attacks', selfish teens are begging to be turned into vampires, while the council has a hard time gripping the fact that the main authorities are siding with vampires. And to add to the bubbling pot, a new club opens on the border of town, directed towards the supernatural society.
